HOW SMARTED?
PODCAST CAMP
Created by the team behind Who Smarted? the family educational podcast that reaches more than 1 million monthly listeners. In just four weeks your kid will learn to create, produce, record, and publish their own podcast, and they'll learn real storytelling skills they'll use for life.
What Happens at Camp?
Over four live online Saturday sessions in March (3 PM ET, 1 hour each) (plus fun assignments and hands-on practice between sessions) your child will go from "I have an idea" to "I made a podcast."
Can't make it live? No problem. Every session is recorded with lifetime access, so your child can learn on their schedule.
The live online sessions are run by the Trusty Narrator and Chet Nickerson from Who Smarted? (aka Jerry Kolber and Adam "Tex" Davis - live on camera!) the creators of the hit family podcasts Who Smarted? and Mysteries About True Histories, and the TV shows Brainchild (Netflix) and Brain Games (Nat Geo).
What's Included:
- 4 live interactive sessions with Jerry (Trusty) and Adam (Chet) (recorded for lifetime access in your own personal How Smarted? library)
- Live sessions are March 7, 14, 21, and 28 at 3PM EST
- Sessions available immediately in your library if you can't make it live
- Complete course modules with lessons, tutorials, and assignments
- Templates for outlines, scripts, and interview questions
- Tech setup videos (you won't need to buy any gear or apps!)
- Resource guides and recommended tools
- Ongoing online forum and Q&A support throughout the four weeks
Week 1: Introduction to Podcasting
Your child will discover what makes podcasts work, explore different podcast styles, and start thinking about what they want to create. They'll get a behind-the-scenes look at how Who Smarted? is made. They'll learn how to use a phone, tablet or computer as their studio (no additional equipment needed!) and how to decide what their show should be about.
Week 2: Planning The Podcast
Time to turn ideas into a plan. Your child will finalize their topic, figure out who they're talking to, and create an outline for their first episode. This is where their unique voice starts to take shape.
Week 3: Recording and Editing
Your child will learn how to record like a pro, edit their episode to sound polished, and add music or sound effects to make it pop - all with equipment you already have and free apps. This is where the magic happens.
Week 4: Launching and Promoting
Your child's podcast is ready! They'll learn how to publish it (with your permission), share it with family and friends, or how to plan more episodes if they want to keep going.
By the end, they'll have something they're genuinely proud of - and they'll have developed critical thinking skills, storytelling skills, and confidence that will last a lifetime.
BONUS: Safe, Moderated Community Forum Campers get access to a private online space where they can ask questions, share ideas, and get feedback from Trusty, Chet and the team throughout the month—and beyond.
By the end of camp, your child will have:
✅ A finished podcast episode they created from scratch
✅ The confidence to express their ideas clearly
✅ Real storytelling, critical thinking, and communication skills they'll use for life
✅ Pride in making something they can share with the world
